Colleen Kappel Assumes Role of OPSOA President for 2017-2018
Members of the Ontario Public Supervisory Officers’ Association (OPSOA) have elected Colleen Kappel, Superintendent of Education for Lakehead Public Schools, as their 2017-18 president.Ms. Kappel will assume her role as president on September 1, 2017.
“It is a distinct honour to have the confidence and support of your peers and colleagues,” says Colleen Kappel, Incoming OPSOA President and Lakehead Public Schools Superintendent of Education.“Public education is truly the foundation of our society.I am proud to serve as the president of an association that is keenly focused on advocating for students and educators in our province.”
Colleen Kappel has been a Superintendent of Education with Lakehead Public Schools since August 2009. Colleen’s portfolio includes Mental Health, Social Work, Special Education, Equity and Inclusive Education, Alternative Education, Managing Information for Student Achievement, Safe Schools and Leadership as well as the supervision of sixteen elementary schools and two secondary schools. Throughout her diverse career, Ms. Kappel has been devoted to creating welcoming, safe and caring learning environments for students.
OPSOA is the professional organization representing over 300 Superintendents and Directors of Education from the thirty-one English language Public District School Boards of Ontario.OPSOA advocates for public education as a fundamental right of all students in Ontario.
